“Light the fire within, not the fire below.”
Finally, the new year is on its way! Better choices will be made and better opportunities will be utilized. You won’t make the same mistakes and will better yourself. New year, new you, right? But maybe that’s not how you’re feeling.
Are you unmotivated? Do you frequently question your purpose in life? Is life repetitive and mundane? Then the fire within you has faded. The passion living inside has died. The day drags on until your shoes are off, your head is comfortably in the pillows, and the sound of silence puts you to sleep. The simple routine in your life makes it harder to practice your craft or to start your own business. Like I’ve stayed before, do NOT wait until 2019 to do something. You got this! Let’s do something now that will impact us before 2019:
1. Eat more fruits and vegetables
I am guilty of not eating enough vegetables! I am the pickiest eater but I like trying different dishes. On the other hand, I haven’t been eating as healthy as I should. What can I say? I love French fries and chicken wings. The unhealthy eating and putting processed foods in our bodies stop today! Try to go cold turkey or slowly stop eating fast food; no matter how you achieve the goal, we can do it. Trust me, you’ll feel better before 2019 makes its way to your front door.
2. Choose better friends
During this time of the year, more people talk about leaving “fake friends” in 2018. If someone in your life is not the right for you, then it is time to let that person go. But don’t wait until it’s 11:59pm on December 31st, to tell these people to roll bounce out of your life. As Bougie Babes, we keep our circle filled with positive people who want the best for themselves and for you. So don’t wait, interact with the people that peak your curiosity; ask your friends the difficult open ended questions and see if they are meant to be in your life. Believe the actions of your friends, family, coworkers, mentors, and etc. And remember, just because you do not click with a person does not make them fake. The individual is just not your cup of tea.
3. Practice healthier coping mechanisms
Whether it be through fitness , through the arts, or through knowledge; we will practice better ways to express our emotions. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it. Alcohol, drugs, and violence have terrible long term consequences. It can stun your growth physically and mentally. Before January 1st, we will not rely on bad habits to make us happy. So pick up a paintbrush, a pen, or a dumbbell and fight our demons head on!
4. Communication is key
I know it’s cliche, but you know it’s true. Many times our worst moments started because of miscommunication. It’s time to say how we feel in a respectful manner. It’s not easier to change the way you communicate. I know from experience that changing the way you speak to others is DIFFICULT! You need to think before you speak and be able to get your point across in a conversation.
5. Drink more water
Yep, I said what I said. Water is natural and the best thing for us, why not use it? Put down the 2 liter bottle of soda and get a gallon of water. Don’t drink the gallon in a day, but drink at least 4 cups of water a day. The best way to feel better, look better, and quench your thirst is by drinking water. Drink only water for a month straight and see how great you will feel by the end of it.
And that is just a few things we can do to light that fire and start changing things now before 2019 begins. There is an abundant amount of changes that can be applied to all of our lives; so start small and work your way to those goals. Have a great holiday and I’ll be here in the new year!
