Tips to Maintain Your Mane in the Winter

Hey babes,

Fall is here! Halloween is around the corner, and my sweet tooth is coming in. The cupcakes, cookies, cakes, and candies I will be enjoying because of the Halloween and birthday parties. Almost everyone in my life has a birthday in all the Fall and Winter months; my own birthday is in November. And you know what that means, I need to look good. It’s great to have days where you can relax in some sweatpants, but some days deserves a fashion show. And this includes having the hair done.

Fall and winter can be harsh for natural hair. Hair breaks off when the harsh wind hits it. The cold air makes the hair brittle and brittle hair creates split ends. Split ends do not look good. My hair is NOT allowed to look like the witch brooms of the Sanderson sisters. Babes, we must protect our hair. Luckily, I have some tips for keeping our hair moisturized and healthy.

-Hats are friends, not food
Please save a babe and donate a hat. Keeping the hair protected from the wind is important to keep the hair from breaking. Not all hats are good for hair. Silk lined hats are best because the fabric does not absorb the moisture in the hair or cause friction like other fabrics. Silk lined hats can be found on Amazon, Grace Eleyae, and Etsy.

-Protective Hairstyles
Braids, twists, ponytails, buns, wigs, etc. are great hairstyles that will protect the hair.  There is a variety of braids at affordable prices.  Box braids, crochet braids, and even Senegalese twists come in different colors and sizes and still protect your hair.  Adding extensions to your hair is another fun way to protect your hair this winter!  Either online or at your local beauty supply store, extensions are cheap and reusable.  If you want a fluffier ponytail, or more length to your hair, extensions are the best to use.  And lastly, wigs.  Wigs can change your personality in a moment.  Each wig is a different look.  You can be a red head on Monday and have deep blue hair by Thursday.  The change is nice but be careful about wig glue.  Your edges will begin to thin out if there is too much wig glue.

-Let your SLOW GLOW

Moisturizing your hair in the winter is essential to keeping your curls healthy.  Hair dries out in the winter; oiling and moisturizing the hair keeps it from feeling like straw. Oils such as Jamaican black castor oil, aragon oil, avocado oil, and jojoba oil are great in the winter because of its nourishing, and rejuvenating properties.  Using the L.O.C./L.C.O. method seals moisture in and keeps the curls defined.  Grab your favorite leave-in conditioner and curl defining cream, go to Netflix on your laptop, and enjoy the end of the night by watching your favorite show and giving your hair some TLC.

-Cut it out!

Trim those split ends, sis.  There are hundreds of videos on YouTube on how to trim your ends at home.  Split ends prevent hair growth and create weak hair strands.  Let those ends go!

– Keep the heat out of the kitchen

Steaming your hair is good for the hair, however, using heat to straighten it is not acceptable.  Curling or flat ironing the hair dries and burns the hair.  We do not need to add ways to dry out our hair this winter.  Put the flat iron away and search stretching styles on YouTube.  I promise you will appreciate the stretched method more than using heat to straighten your hair.

Winter Skincare Routine + Winner of January Challenge

Hey Babes,

Starting my Spring semester in college and beginning a new job are the amazing blessings in my life currently.  It is great to earn some money for my bougie lifestyle and get an education to fulfill my bougie future.  On the other hand, I don’t have time to write blog posts as frequently as I used to do. But, I’m back!  And I have a new skincare routine for the Winter.  My skin dries out quicker in the winter than the other seasons.  During Winter, I take precaution to keep my skin refreshed and rejuvenated.   My new skincare routine can be modified if you have oily skin.  Some of the products below you have seen from a previous post; the other products are new.  Check out my new skincare routine below!

  • Botanics All Cleansing Foam Wash

My favorite facial cleanser of all time, the Botanics foam wash is great for all skin types.  I use a dime size amount of the cleanser and mix it with a small amount of warm water.  The cleanser foams in your hands and deeply cleans your face.  Also, the product does not have alcohol to aide in cleansing.  Personally, I use the cleanser all the time and I still have the first bottle I ever used.  The cleanser can be used for two years; however, I don’t expect to have the same container for another year.  My next step in my skincare routine is my lip scrub.

  • BreedLove Beauty Coffee Lip Scrub

The coffee lip scrub from BreedLove Beauty is one of the best lip scrubs I have ever gotten my hands on.  The coffee lip scrub removes all the dead skin on my lips without feeling harsh.  The smell of the scrub is subtle; the scrub smell won’t overpower your senses.  After using the scrub, my lips feel soft as rose petals.  The scrub also moisturizes my lips, so they aren’t dry.  I don’t use the scrub every day; I use the scrub three times a week.  I love having soft lips.   After the scrub, I use my toner.

  • Studio 35 Beauty Witch Hazel Toner

This toner is inexpensive and works wonders on my skin.  Depending on the day, I use the toner after using the Botanics foam wash.  The toner picks up anything that my cleanser left.  Usually, the foam wash gets all the dirt from my face, however, the toner makes sure to get excess filth that might be deep in my pores.  My skin doesn’t dry after I use the toner.  In addition, the toner is a big factor in my smooth and clear skin.  This next step is my most recent addition to my skincare routine – tea tree oil.

  • Garnier Soothing Rosewater Facial Mist

This another product I have raved about before in a previous post.  The facial mist gives a nice refresher for my dry skin and brings back the moisture in my skin.  The product can be used before makeup as a primer and after makeup as a setting spray.  The facial mist is perfect for a little help when you feel dry.  You can read more about my raving about the product in my previous post.

  • Hollywood Beauty Tea Tree Oil

I doubt the brand of the tea tree oil is the best for skin, but this oil has given me life.  The first time I applied the oil to my skin, I noticed a clear difference.  The dark spots on my face lightened overnight.  The smell of the oil is strong, even with only a drop.  I rub the oil on my face with my fingertips and watch my skin glisten.  It is one of the best additions I have added to my skincare routine.  The next thing in my routine helps dull the smell of the oil.

  • Ponds’ Dry Skin Cream

I need to be sponsored by Ponds’ because I love this cream.  This cream saves my skin every time I massage it in.  The salve is so creamy and light.  Once applied, it softens and rejuvenates the skin.  The Ponds’ cream can be used in every season, depending on how much you put on.  For the winter, I doubled up on the cream for the harsh winds and cold air.  In the summer, I prefer a small amount of the cream.  I suggest this cream to every dry skin person I meet.  It is the best and affordable.  Buy it.  My last step on my skincare routine is another new addition.

  • Jason Vitamin E Moisturizing Cream

This is a new cream I apply after I use my Pond’s cream.  It is a bit heavier and creamier than the Pond’s cream, but it works for my skin.  I don’t feel my pores clogging and crying for air.  The cream is a nice addition in keeping my skin healthy and clear. The vitamin E in the cream evens my skin while the avocado oil renews my skin’s softness.  The product works wonders, and I love the results I get from it.  Although the Pond’s cream is the best thing that can happen to my face, the Jason vitamin E cream is the icing on the cake.

And that is my new skincare routine for the winter!  Tell me your skincare routine in the comments down below.  In addition, the Bougie Babe Challenge winner is…. Ms. SUNSHINE!  Her post is down below!  Check out her Instagram and show her some love.  Thank you all for participating in the Bougie Babe Challenge of January 2019!  I will be posting the new challenge of February by tomorrow, stay tuned!

Bye Babes!
